Vehicle Fire
Lieutenant Kevin Ferris, February 17
On Monday, February 16th around 5pm, while clearing a fire alarm, PFD was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire at the intersection of Bay Street and Washington Street. Members arrived to a well involved engine compartment fire, and went to work to extinguish the fire. Both Career and Volunteer members practiced forcible entry, basic search & rescue techniques, and portable ladders, including descending a ladder with a victim. Commercial Structure Fire

Yesterday, just before 12pm, we were dispatched to a fire alarm activation at a commercial building on Lower South Street, with a report of a fire in the building.

*Weekly Rapid Intervention Crew, or “RIC,” operations was this week’s focus. RIC is specialized skill set for the rescuing of missing, downed, or injured firefighters from a building fire. A busy snowy Sunday for Group 2 members yesterday! On duty firefighters answered multiple calls for service yesterday, including several EMS calls, a few fire alarm activations, and an inside odor of gas. This week’s training consisted of Rope Rescue operations. Members reviewed the components of our variety of rope equipment and assembly of a Low Angle rescue system, as well as securing a patient to a stokes rescue basket.
