Extrication Drill

This week’s training topic was vehicle extrication. Vehicle extrication is the process of using hydraulic tools to remove sections of a vehicle, to gain access for the removal of accident victims, entrapped in a vehicle due to severe damage. Recently, we were fortunate enough to acquire several vehicles that were no longer useful and headed for scrap; and were able use them for realistic, hands on vehicle extrication training. Both volunteer and career members exercised a variety of extrication skills, including door removals, steering column lifts, roof removals, and dashboard rolls. During these evolutions, we were also able to put our entire complement of hydraulic tools through their paces, ensuring the equipment was operating at full capacity.

It is very rare to come across vehicles to use for training, all of our members were thrilled to get the opportunity to train on these skills, and left no surface on any of the vehicles undamaged!
