Volunteer Firefighters Complete CPR Certification, Strengthening Department's Emergency Response Capabilities

This week, several volunteer firefighters from the department successfully completed certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), enhancing the team's readiness to respond to cardiac emergencies both in the field and among their fellow responders.

PFD Career members Lieutenant MacLennan and Firefighter Howard, who are certified CPR instructors, led the training session. The course covered critical lifesaving skills, including CPR techniques, rescue breathing, and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

Volunteer Firefighters Bacuilima, Montagnani, and Bello participated in the training, joining the growing number of department personnel equipped to act quickly and effectively in cardiac emergencies.

"Ensuring as many of our members as possible are trained in CPR is a key part of our preparedness strategy," said a department spokesperson. "This training not only benefits our community members and visitors—it also helps protect our own firefighters. Cardiac-related incidents are one of the leading causes of firefighter injury nationwide."

The department encourages all residents to consider CPR training and to remain aware of the early signs of cardiac distress.

Fire Prevention Tip: Knowing how to perform CPR can save a life. Consider taking a certified CPR course through your local fire department or community health provider.
