This week’s focus was EMS skills. Members practiced applying a Traction Splint device to a patient. Traction Splints are used for patients suffering from femur fractures, and work by applying pressure to stretch the leg, reducing pain, and limiting further muscle or tissue damage. All of our career firefighters are also Emergency Medical Technicians; medical emergencies account for a majority of our call volume. Being prepared for all scenarios we may respond to, be it fire or medical, makes it necessary for us to have extensive and diverse training subjects.
