Weekly Training

What a week of training we had here at the PFD!

To kick off the week, members of groups 1&3 attended our bi-annual training day. These are full, 8 hour days, where off duty career members are able to dedicate a full day towards training on topics outside of our weekly training schedule; without the responsibility of typical daily “on duty tasks.” Members are fully able to focus on training during these days. The topic for the training day was a Hazardous Materials refresher. We were fortunate enough to coordinate with Chief Doug Stiller and Deputy Chief Chris Johnson from DES, to provide us with two four hour blocks of PPE and Decontamination training.

Our regular weekly training topic familiarized our member with the administration of medications. The three medications we trained on are albuterol to treat respiratory emergencies, epinephrine for treating severe allergic reactions, and narcan for treating opiate overdoses. Members reviewed the protocols and guidelines for the administration and the practical skills on how to administer the medication.
