**Disclaimer** Members do not appear in firefighting gear in the photos, as these drills were conducted in our “clean” side of the firehouse; where fire gear is not allowed to be worn.

Our efforts to keep our City, our residents, visitors and businesses safe starts well before the alarm rings in the fire station. Our members, train for countless hours annually, both in house and by attending formal NYS, Westchester County, and various other hosting agency courses.

All department members are required by department policy and NYS requirements to receive annual in service training, in a multitude of categories. To comply with these standards, our Training Officer publishes a training schedule with topics to be delivered to all members. Both career and volunteer firefighters receive similar training topics to maintain consistency throughout the membership.
High-rise firefighting operations was on the schedule for last week. Members practiced deploying our high-rise hose bundles and making connections to a building standpipe. Most multi story buildings are equipped with a standpipe, which is a pre-piped water supply system for fire suppression. We carry bundled hoses that are set up specifically for standpipe operations, to eliminate the need for stretching several hundred feet of hose to reach a fire in an upper floor. There are several standpipe equipped buildings in our City, we always must ensure our firefighters are ready to adapt our operations to different building types, to keep ourselves as prepared as possible, to keep our City safe!
