| “V. E. I. S” stands for, Vent>Enter>Isolate>Search. VEIS is the process of making entry to a space through a window, isolating that space (closing an interior door) to protect it from fire spread, and rapidly searching the space for a victim. This operation enables firefighters to quickly enter and search a space that may not be accessible by normal means, due to fire conditions.
Being prepared to enter a potentially survivable space, despite untenable conditions in other areas of a building, gives potential victims a greater chance at survival, which is the reason we conduct these training evolutions.
