| This week’s topic was alternative anchoring for Rope Rescue Operations. When a substantial object is not available and a rope rescue operation must be executed, firefighters must be prepared to use physics, techniques, and a reliance on our equipment to become a human anchor. Firefighters simulated lowering a rescuer over a roof edge, using only themselves as the anchor, with our conventional roof rope rescue equipment. This operation would be performed to rescue a trapped victim in a high-rise building fire, where conventional means of escape or entry are eliminated due to fire conditions. While this is a very low frequency event, members must be prepared to use these skills with the number of multi-story buildings in our response area. |
